Extreme Challenge Combinations

Okay, well maybe not extreme. But this card does meet 3 challenges this week. Here are the challenges I used:
  • WT224 from Splitcoast to use Bold Brights
  • Use stars from Our Creative Corner
  • Follow the sketch below from Card Positioning Systems.

I admit that this card is not exactly the "norm" for me. It was one of the cards that just kept evolving and this is what I came up with! There are elements I love and others that I am not so sure about. But you never know until you try, right?

The color scheme for this card is Crushed Curry (new In Color available July 1), Tempting Turquoise, Pink Passion, and a tiny amount of Close to Cocoa.

The card follows an upside down version of the sketch. I used my Sizzix Originals Die and my Big Shot to cut out 2 Crushed Curry stars that were layered to mimic the look of a sun. In all honesty, if I had a smaller die I would have used it, but I had to work with what I had! A chipboard circle (OnBoard Essentials) was covered in Pink Passion, and layered next.
The sun image, from Just Beachy (Occasions Mini), was inked up in Summer Sun and stamped onto Whisper White before being punched out with a 1 3/8" circle punch. This was layered onto a slightly larger circle of Tempting Turquoise (cut using Circle Scissors Plus). A yellow rhinestone brad was attached to the center before being popped up onto the pink chipboard with dimensionals.

A 1"x4.25" rectangle of Pink Passion was given a little paper pierced border using the crafters toolkit and attached to the card. Next the "sun" was added. TIP: Because this piece was so big, I attached it with parts of it going off of the rest of the card. I like the look of elements extending past the card.

The sentiment "Summer" is actually an epoxy sticker from EK Success. I layered it onto Pink Passion and made loops of Crushed Curry polka dot grosgrain off of the sides.

My favorite part of the card would have to be the striped piece at the bottom with the little fish! The strip might look like DSP but I actually made it using a piece of Close to Cocoa and small strips of Tempting Turquoise, Pink Passion, and Crushed Curry. TIP: I used a small XYRON Create-a-sticker to get adhesive on all the smaller pieces. It might sound a little time intensive, but it was really quick and easy.

The fish, also from Just Beachy, were all stamped onto Whisper White, snipped out and popped up on more dimensionals.

I just received my shipment of the new 2009-2010 catalogs today! Want one? Email me!

Happy Stampin'!
Carrie
