Tall Tales Gift Bag and Matching Card

I wish I could say I thought of this project on my own, but I actually got the bag idea from this post on Splitcoast.

With all the soon-to-be born babies in our family, I thought it would be fun to make a kid themed gift ensemble. I started by making the gift card:

  • This is a 3" square card of Very Vanilla.
  • Two strips of Tall Tales DSP were adhered on the bottom of the card.
  • A little paper piercing detail was added above the DSP.
  • Chocolate Chip taffeta ribbon was tied around the top.
  • The elephant, from Animal Stories, was inked up in Old Olive and stamped onto Very Vanilla. It was snipped out and adhered to the card using dimensionals.
  • Another Old Olive elephant was stamped onto a mini envelope.
For the gift bag (wouldn't fit in my photo tent!):
  • I actually took apart an old gift bag to be used as a template. I cut two of the DSP prints for the front and back of the bag, giving myself about 1/2" extra on either side for adhering to the sides and just as long as the bag template for the bottom.
  • I cut two smaller pieces for the sides for an exact fit (the 1/2" flaps from above will be adhered under the edges).
  • I used the bag template for scoring all of my lines (for the flaps, sides, and bottom).
  • So Saffron Grosgrain (an SAB freebie) was attached to the tops of the front and back (the edges will be concealed when the bag is put together).
  • Sticky Strip was used for adhering everything together.
  • 4 - 1/2" circles were cut out near the top on both the front and back for the Jumbo Grommets. TIP: The punch wouldn't actually go down that far, so I pushed the grommet throught the paper and used a hobby blade to cut out the center. A bone folder works well for pushing the back the prongs of the grommet.
  • 5/8" Chocolate Chip Grosgrain was used for handles. Rather than tying, I used more sticky strip to attach the ends to the inside of the bag.
  • Chocolate Chip card stock was cut into 2" strips and attached to the inside using more sticky strip to cover the ribbon tails and grommets.
A part of me actually wants to keep this, but I know I should give it away!

Very smart. I adore they way you used a template and put the gift bag together. Perfect for all the new babies on the way (and beyond).
